Cheung Chau Island

Cheung Chau is a picturesque island with a waterfront that bustles with activity. There are butcher shops and vendors selling fresh fish, shellfish, fruit and vegetables. The small local restaurants and food stalls do a brisk trade on the weekend. Of interest is the Cheung Chau Complex on the main road (Tai Hing Tai Road), part government offices and part wet market where you can pick up fresh seafood and have it cooked for you at a nearby restaurant.

Cheung Chau is also a good place to go for a swim. A five-minute walk from the ferry pier is Tung Wan (beach), a very popular swimming spot with locals and visitors. Right around the point, is another good beach, Kwun Yam Wan (fronting a Kwun Yum Temple), also popular.

SkyCity

SkyCity brings a range of exciting new facilities and services to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)’s rapidly expanding customer base. The centrepiece is SkyPlaza, located mostly within the non-restricted area of Terminal 2 (T2), that began phased opening in February 2007.

Apart from more than 100 retail and catering outlets, SkyPlaza features four entertainment zones:

- 4D Extreme Screen Theatre
- Aviation Discovery Centre
- Asia Hollywood
- i-Sports

T2 contains 56 airline check-in counters along with Immigration and Customs facilities, plus a 36-bay coach station.

In addition to T2, other projects under the SkyCity development include the SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course; SkyPier, a cross-boundary ferry terminal; and a second airport hotel, the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel, which are scheduled to open soon by phases.

Tai O Fishing Village

Located in the far northwest of Lantau, this is a rare example of a Chinese stilt-house community. Its Tanka-speaking boat people mostly live in tiny homes built on stilts in the creeks and tidal waters flanking Tai O's offshore islet. Tai O is accessible by an hour-long, cross-island bus ride from either Mui Wo or Tung Chung (the ride itself is a sightseeing treat). In the village are animist shrines and a few temples
